Camel & Goat Dairy Expansion in Saudi Arabia

Background
A growing camel and goat dairy near Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, transitioning from manual milking to a mechanized system. The farm milks 80 camels and 200 goats daily, supplying raw milk to local processors. The climate is extreme desert — summer temperatures exceed 45°C, and winter nights can drop near freezing.

Portable milking machines, portable ultrasound scanner, GPS ear tags, heated water troughs

The Challenge
Manual milking was labor-intensive and inconsistent, limiting the farm’s ability to scale. Camel reproduction was challenging — traditional pregnancy detection methods were unreliable, leading to long dry periods. The owner also struggled with locating animals in large desert pens and ensuring they had consistent water access during both extreme heat and winter cold snaps.

Our Solution
A combination of portable milking machines was supplied for the camel side, while a compact goat milking setup handled the goat herd. A portable ultrasound scanner was provided, customized for both camel and small ruminant imaging, enabling pregnancy detection at 28–30 days in camels and 25 days in goats. GPS ear tags were deployed for remote herd inventory and health monitoring. Insulated water troughs were installed in all pens, with the heating function used during the brief winter cold season.

The Result

  • Milking time was cut by over 60%, allowing the farm to increase output without adding staff.

  • Pregnancy detection accuracy improved dramatically, reducing dry periods and increasing annual milk production per animal.

  • The owner could monitor herd location and health from his phone, even when off-site.

  • Water intake remained consistent year-round, with no freezing issues reported.
